Hon. Beni Lar Commissions Ecological Projects

 The Hon. Member Representing Langtang North/South Federal Constituency, Hon Beni Lar has commissioned projects executed by the Ecological Project Office in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

Projects include;

1. 1km Wallang Road with concrete drainage.

2. De-silted Concrete Canal

3. Dredged Earth Dam and

4. Concrete bridge at Ibum community Langtang North.

Commissioning the projects, Hon. Beni Lar thanked the outgone SGF, Mr. Boss Mustapha for listening to her plea when she reached out to his office to help her constituency deal with erosion control that has endangered parts of her constituency.
She also thanked the people of Langtang North/South Federal Constituency for returning her to the house for a record fifth time and promised to always prioritize the interest of the people.

Delivering his speech, the Permanent Secretary of the Ecological Project office, in the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation Mallam Shehu Ibrahim mni who was represented by the Deputy Director in Charge of Projects, Mr Alabi Bamidele said the project was initiated through a request by the Member Representing Langtang North/South Federal Constituency, Hon. Beni Lar for an urgent Intervention on flooding, road improvement works, and other ecological challenges in the constituency and to avoid further environmental degradation as well as possible loss of lives and properties that may arise due to flooding.

He further admonished the community to see the projects as their own and to maintain the structures constructed.

Furthermore, the Permanent Secretary advised the community to ensure the drains are not plugged with dirt or sand as this will render the project counterproductive as well as expose the community to the risk of flooding.

The projects embarked on by the ecological fund office in the constituency are in phases, the first phase includes desilting of the concrete canal which before now has been filled with sand thereby preventing water from collecting and flowing to the secondary dam which will in turn feed the main Langtang Dam.

Also, the secondary dam was dredged to clear the bed of the dam by unearthing mud, weeds, and dirt that had accumulated over time, thus, reducing the capacity of the dam to hold more water.

Furthermore, drainages were built to run through the length of the newly constructed 1km Road at Wallang, Langtang North.

Based on the survey carried out by engineers handling the project, the second phase will make Lazhan, Wallang, Kuffen, and other erosion-prone areas completely floodproof.

The team of engineers also visited Langtang South and surveyed flood-prone areas in Kwaikong, Sabon-Gida, and Mabudi.
Hopefully, in the next budget cycle, through the Lower Benue River Basin Commission, the Mabudi Dam will be expanded and dredged as well.

AppreciatingHon. Beni Lar, the Ubandoma Wallang, Chief Kumfa Fadip who spoke on behalf of the traditional rulers of Wallang conveyed the appreciation of the community to the Hon. Member for her efforts in bringing this intervention to the community, while promising to ensure the community maintains the projects, he admonished other elected officials within the constituency to emulate her zeal for the progress and development of the land.

It is worthy of note that the Ecological Project office had project slots for only 15 states out of the 36 states of the federation and Hon. Beni Lar was able to attract one of those projects to her constituency.
